"For us let it be enough to know ourselves to be in the place where God wants us, and carry on our work, even though it be no more than the work of an ant, infinitesimally small, and with unforeseeable results."

Quote for the Day

"To be near Jesus is dangerous. It offers no prospect of earthly happiness, but involves the fire of tribulation and the test of suffering. But it must indeed be borne in upon every one who, yielding to fear, turns away from the call of Jesus, that he excludes himself from the Kingdom of God."

Clay who?

"Classified"

"The cloak of secrecy is the last refuge of scoundrels, scallywags and despots."

(Hmmm . . . Bush-Cheney? They can snoop on you without court authorization, but won't answer questions or honour subpoenas from congress? Well cloaked, indeed.)

Quote for the Day

"I know the Unknown God," said the little priest with an unconscious grandeur of certitude that stood up like a granite tower. "I know his name; it is Satan. The true God was made flesh and dwelt among us. And I say to you, wherever you find men ruled merely by mystery, it is the mystery of iniquity. If the devil tells you something is too fearful to look at, look at it. If he says something too terrible to hear, hear it. If you think some truth unbearable, bear it."

Quote for the Day

"Man's first business is, 'What does God want me to do?', not "What will God do if I do so and so?'"

Who's Inadequate?

The headline reads: SBC Leader Says Males Lack 'Equipment' for Child Care.

I would suggest that this is Mohler's personal confession of inadequacy rather than a factual observation on God's creation.

Quote for the Day

"One is sometimes (not often) glad not to be a great theologian; one might so easily mistake it for being a good Christian."

Federal judge rules 2 Patriot Act provisions unconstitutional

At last someone is standing up for our constitution and the rights it provides. This is one of the most significant decisions made in recent years. Expect Bush to appeal. Don't be surprised if his hand picked judicial appointees try to repay him by overturning this decision.

If there are no constraints upon search, seizure and incarceration without charge, we have tyranny by default.

Tax dollars at work

The Christian Century has an important article in the latest "Editor's Desk." Entitled "Tax dollars at work, it reports on what few americans know -- the extent of US military presence around the world. The authors also make pertinent observations about how this pervasive military presence shapes world perceptions of the United States. If anything, the resentment created in local populations by these bases is understated. This is a must read article.
